Your hair is probably one of the most conspicuous parts of your entire body. Even though most people would mention eyes as the most important thing about your appearance, the fact is that many people look at your hair first. It’s only natural since it covers your entire head.
Choosing the right hair style for your face shape
Like I've said a few times before on this site, it could be a good idea to try a wig before you decide to go to a hairdresser and have your hair cut. Once the scissors have gone through your hair, there's no turning back, right?
Oval face shape
This is said to be the ideal face shape since a variety of hair styles look good on you – short, medium, long hair styles, even slicked-back styles.
Oblong face shape
Your hair will look good with fullness at the sides. Short or medium length, preferably above shoulder length, will shorten your face. If you want long hair, try layers or curly hair.
A typical oblong face. Look how the fullness at the sides makes her face look rounder.
Round face shape
To get the illusion of a narrower face, try a cut with fullness on top. Swept-back hairstyles and long hair (like Christina Ricci below) will look good on you. You could also try a side part in the hair. Avoid the short page type of cut as it will only make your face appear even rounder. Also avoid fullness at your cheeks.
Rectangular face shape
Short to medium lengths, fullness at the sides to make your face look rounder, wispy bangs. Curly hair usually looks better than straight on you.
Avoid high hair styles and center parts. Also avoid slicked-back styles unless you want to accentuate your rectangular face shape (like Demi below).
Demi Moore seems to like to expose her rectangular face, like on the left image. Compare to the right image
where her entire appearance is softer and more balanced.
Square face shape
Try wavy or curly hair to make your face appear rounder. High hair-styles are good too since they will make your face look longer. Also try wispy bangs. Long, straight hair or a cut ending at the jaw will only strengthen your already square face.
Heart shaped face
Medium or long hair will look best on you. Also try side-parted hair styles. High hair styles are not for you.
Take a look at these photos of Keri Russell, who doesn't have the typical heart shaped face, but they serve as great inspiration anyway. Perfect hair styles for a heart shaped face.
Specific problems
High forehead: Try full bangs.
Narrow Chin: Long hair with fullness at the chin should make it look wider.
Low Forehead: Side-wisps will do the trick.
Hair styles proven to make guys' heads turn
This page is about getting attention and tricks that always work, right? So I’m not going to disappoint you. Hereby I present the hairstyles that I have found gave me the most compliments. When presenting them to my friends/customers, they tried them and proved me right!
Romantic dream:
Hold a curling iron vertically to make spiral-formed curls. Work with small wisps.
Draw one wisp from each temple backwards to form a hanging, casual-looking tail.
Use hairspray to fix.
Something like this. The wisps can actually be a little thinner.
May not be ideal for round faces.
Sexy 40’s girl:
Use big hair rollers or a curling iron, but don’t go higher than your jaw.
Take out the rollers when the hair is dry and brush very carefully for the true Veronica Lake look.
Use hairspray to fix.
May not be ideal for round faces.
Dominatrix:
Straighten your hair with a flat iron. It has to be super straight.
Use hair gel (but don’t use too much) to gel the hair straight back.
Make a ponytail high up on your head. If you have any loose extentions, you could use them to get an extra-long ponytail.
Attach something special to it. For example you could wrap a garland made of silver spangles or a ribbon made of black silk around it. Or a red rose.
May not be ideal for long faces.
Do you realize what effect this could have in combination with high boots and a knee-length skirt? Tonight’s wet dreams will be about you. ;)

Make your hair shine without looking oily
Big no-no:
I’ve seen far too many girls (and guys) overuse shine spray. Shine spray may be good for photos and very dry hair but for most of us, it will only make the hair look oily. Oily hair is a catastrophe. It looks as if you haven’t washed it and can even make people feel dirty from just looking at you. Be careful with hairgel too. It could give you that wet and oily look that makes others shiver.
Make your hair shine:
My best tip for making the hair shine is to use a curling iron or a straightening iron. Not only does it make the hair curly or straight, but for some strange reason it also makes it shine. Could it be the heat?
Just don't use these irons daily.
